There are so many different types of jobs in the world and you never know where you might end up working. Although most people start a job with the goal of making money in mind, many actually end up loving the work that they do. Unfortunately there are lots of jobs that are quite dangerous and people can actually be killed while on the job. It’s important to maintain safety standards and keep employees aware of OSHA requirements in order to prevent accidents and injuries.
Many of these dangerous jobs are things that seem like they could be risky, and when you hear that they are, it makes sense. But there are also a lot of professions out there that don’t seem like they would be dangerous at all but actually are very much so! Here are 3 such jobs.
Merchandising
Merchandising does not sound like something that would be dangerous but it actually is because you are lifting heavy boxes a lot and putting them up high. With heavy boxes – often full of heavy or breakable things such as glass bottles—above your head, accidents can happen where things can fall on you and knock you unconscious. Merchandisers also have to climb ladders and can easily fall and hurt themselves. The next time you see someone stocking shelves, thank them for the hard work they do.
Truck Driving
Being a long haul trucker is a great gig for people who like driving, and it is a great way to see different parts of your country while also making money. One of the best perks is that you can choose to do it with a partner, so it is a good career option for husband/wife teams who like road trips. But driving a large truck is actually quite dangerous. There are so many different things that can go wrong and cause accidents on the freeways. Breakdowns in bad areas during inclement weather are also a risk. There is a lot of training that goes into driving a truck long distances, and much of that has to do with ensuring the driver’s safety at all times.
Corrections Officers
You may think that corrections officers are pretty safe at work, but this is not always the case. Even though they are usually armed and trained very well and extreme precautions are taken constantly to make sure inmates can’t do anything to hurt the officers, it still does happen on a regular basis. Jails and prisons are always having to implement new rules to protect corrections officers and other employees. Some have even been killed while at work.
Think twice before choosing one of the careers above, or at least make sure you are well prepared for the dangers you may face while at work!
