Not everyone wants to be handcuffed to a particular area when they’re trying to do their work. Maybe you don’t want to work from 9 to 5 in an office. Perhaps you don’t want to sit in front of a computer screen all day talking to the same people in the cubicles next year. If you’re going to go portable with your business, there are ideas that you can follow.
For a few examples, consider setting up a portable massage business, or a freelance photography company. Maybe you can give music lessons to people in their homes, or create a company where you do IT troubleshooting when people call in for help.
Portable Massage
A simple example of a portable business would be if you wanted to be a masseuse. You could buy a portable massage chair and make sure that your vehicle is large enough to carry it around in, and then whenever a client wants a massage, you just go to their home. It takes a few years to make it through massage school, but after you’re certified, you should have no problem getting clients. The trouble is remaining competitive, and that’s why having the portable aspect as an option can be so helpful.
Freelance Photography
If you have an eye for creative visuals, maybe you can try being a freelance photographer. The apparent job would be to work as a correspondent for a newspaper. But, anytime anyone is throwing an event, if they want professional pictures, you can give them the idea that they can hire you. After you purchase your initial photography equipment, the paychecks for freelance work can actually be quite high, so you make your money back quickly. With freelance photography, you get to meet all sorts of interesting people as well.
Music Lessons
If you are musically inclined, consider being a music teacher. If your clients have a piano at their home, all you have to do is show up in your car and be ready to teach. Music instructors can make good money, and as soon as they get a consistent set of clientele, it can become a full-time job. It’s a very low overhead costing job and allows you to work in all sorts of different situations without requiring that you be stuck at home or in the studio all the time.
IT Troubleshooting
With all the technology that is present and available these days, people need more help than ever making all of their electronic devices work. People have trouble with their computers. They have problems with their laptops. They have trouble with their phones. They have difficulty networking their cable TVs. All of these people need help, and they often need help to come to them. If you create a position for yourself as a remote IT professional, you have a huge segment of the population that needs your services.
